NEW CAR WARRANTY SERVICE

NEW CAR WARRANTY SERVICE IN MAITLAND, NSW

When it comes to logbook servicing, vehicle owners get mixed messages. On the one hand, independent mechanics claim they can take care of it all without voiding the warranties. Dealerships, however, insinuate that you can only bring your vehicle to them if you want your warranty to remain in effect. So what’s the truth?
The truth is in the consumer’s favour – you can bring your vehicle to an independent mechanic, and it won’t void your warranty! Smart Torque Automotive is here to handle all of your logbook servicing needs.

THE LAW PROTECTS YOU

According to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, dealerships and manufacturers cannot force you to have your vehicle serviced by a particular dealer or group of dealers as part of the warranty conditions. Your dealer or manufacturer also cannot void the warranty because you choose to bring your vehicle outside the dealer network.

WHAT THE ACCC SAYS:

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) explains that your preferred mechanic can service your new car without voiding the warranty, although there are some conditions. The following is an extract from the ACCC Consumer Express Newsletter (Issue 1445-9671, April 2005) to explain:
  • New vehicle warranty
Where a problem arises with the vehicle that is covered under the warranty, the vehicle should be taken to the dealer for repair. These repairs should be done free of charge under the warranty.
  • New and used vehicle servicing
In relation to general servicing, motor vehicle dealers are entitled to insist that any servicing performed on cars they sell is carried out by qualified staff, according to the manufacturer's specifications, and using genuine or appropriate quality parts where required. Provided these conditions are met, regardless of where you choose to get your car serviced, your warranty will remain intact. So shop smart and shop around.
Thus, provided consumers do research and ensure that wherever they take a vehicle for servicing, the staff are qualified and all other provisions above are met, the warranty will be safely intact for the warranty period.

WE MEET THE REQUIREMENTS!

Smart Torque Automotive meets all 3 requirements under the law for new vehicle warranty servicing:
  • Qualified Staff
  • Manufacturer’s Specifications
  • Genuine or Appropriate Quality Parts

ONE LAST NOTE

There are two different warranties that come with many vehicles: a statutory warranty and a manufacturer’s warranty. Statutory warranties are implied by the law and give the consumer a minimal level of protection. Manufacturers’ warranties are more extensive, voluntary and may have other terms and conditions.
For further information, please see the ACCC.
